Egypt launches “Silicon Waha” on the second day of eLearning Africa 2016, held on May 24 – 26, in Cairo. The company was launched as an Egyptian Stock Company to establish and operate Science and Technology Parks, under a partnership between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)—affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT)—and the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA)—affiliated to Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development.
Through this partnership, Silicon Waha seeks to have a significant impact on planning, designing, implementing and establishing ICT technology parks, as well as offering logistics services and infrastructure projects required for the development of these parks.
The company’s business model provides the optimum environment necessary to serve the ICT industry in Egypt through integrated services for entrepreneurs, start-ups, small and medium sized enterprises and local and international companies.
The model also encompasses companies of electronics designing and assembling and their outlets; and promotes regional and international commercial, research and educational relations with NGOs, universities, research centers and tech industrial companies through innovation clusters, providing a typical setting for technology incubators.
The company aims to benefit from Egypt’s competitive advantages in terms of location, multilingualism, technical skills and talent pool in attracting local, regional and global investment for the development of areas around these Parks. It also aims to help the local ICT companies to penetrate new foreign markets and encourage them to export their products and services.
The company—which Board of directors (BoD) incorporates representatives from MCTI, ITIDA and NUCA members—aims to establish six technology parks in the cities of Borg Al Arab, Sadat City, Tenth of Ramadan, New Beni Suef, New Assiut and New Aswan.
